Recent trip to Japan Day 3 - Wednesday Adventures in Japan: A Day of Typhoons, Stores, Anime and Delicious Food
Day 3
Wednesday started off a bit rough as I overslept and had to pay a 300 yen fee 😭😭for leaving my capsule hotel late. The weather has been unbearably hot lately, but today there was a typhoon warning, so I made a quick stop at Lawson to buy a umbrella—turns out everyone has the same white plastic one! Despite the rain, I ventured out to Shibuya during the day to explore. I went into the Laforet Harajuku department store, which was incredible—I was tempted to buy everything, but didn't want to carry too much in the heat. I wish I’d taken photos inside, but maybe next time!
After that, I headed over to the famous Shibuya Crossing and, to my excitement, found a building dedicated to "Slam Dunk," one of my favorite animes from back in the day. The building had 5-7 floors, each with something different, and the figurines, especially Chainsaw Man, were amazing. Next time, I might pick up a Slam Dunk souvenir.
After some time walking around, I got hungry and went to a sushi conveyor belt restaurant. Every dish was great, except for the crab innards(don't know why koreans like this)sushi had decent prices and the chili oil was fantastic on the sushi! Post-sushi, I walked around looking for clothes, shoes, and accessories but didn’t find much until I returned to my area and hit up a sports store, where I found some clothes on sale—quite a relief since clothes in Korea can be pretty expensive. I took a break back at my place, had a snack, and took a nap.
Later, I dressed up and headed out to Shin-Okubo, Japan’s version of Koreatown. It was pretty cool to see Korean restaurants and stores here, and I’ve heard the Chinese food is even better than in Korea, though I haven’t tried it yet—maybe next time. Feeling like a more relaxed evening after the past two days of walking, I decided to just hang around my area.
Hunger struck again, so I made my way to Yakitori Torikizoku for a delicious feast. I tried a variety of dishes—chicken meatball, grilled thigh with leek sauce, deep-fried chicken with tartar sauce, kara-age style fried chicken, white leek with salted kelp, chilled tomato, and a rice set with egg and highball. Everything was great, but the thigh meat was the standout. Feeling full, I made a quick stop at Don Quijote for a mini fan and some snacks, making sure to spend over $50 to qualify for the duty-free tax return.
After a quick stroll around,I decided to call it a night and head back to the capsule hotel to rest.
